Summary: Alexis reminisces about the Unicron Battles and receives an unexpected experience.
Author's Notes: This takes place after the series and will be part of yet another fanfiction I got the idea for from an author on fanfiction.net.
It had been five years since they had returned home from their adventure to Cybertron and Rad, Carlos, Alexis, Fred and Billy somehow managed to go back to their lives, but with a lot of explaining to do with their parents about what happened while out in space. Rad's dad had told the other childrens' parents what was discovered beneath the mountain that rested at the edge of the city and the children had been found to be telling the truth. No one in the town had ever expected there had once been a group of giant, alien robots living so close to them and the prospect of them returning one day had made everyone both anxious for more answers and apprehensive on if the Autobots would destroy everything if given the chance to. But for the children, they were told they could return to the Autobot base whenever they pleased as long as they kept their grades up in school.
Alexis was eighteen by this time and was coming into her own right as a young woman, but still had a ways to go before she would be considered a full-fledged woman. She missed the Autobots terribly but knew there was no way of contacting them so easily without alerting the scientists at the research sattelite above the base that she wanted to use the array. But who she missed even more than the Autobots was Starscream. She could never ever forget what he had done for the entire Transformers race when he sacrificed himself to get Galvatron to join forces with Optimus Prime. It was an extreme move, but everyone knew it had to be done in order to gain peace in the universe. Unicron was no more, his shell floating lifelessly in orbit around Cybertron and Alexis was brokenhearted. Deep down inside, she loved Starscream. She could never bring herself to voice as much but she had a feeling that he knew. He had to have known by the way she stayed close to him while they were inside Unicron, when she refused to leave him behind while he fought the bot-spiders and numerous times before when she tried to talk to him to open him up to her.
The tears sprang forth now as she looked down at the green gem encircled in gold that she kept from Starscream's and Jetfire's trip to Mars. Even though the children had asked Jetfire to bring back a souvenir for them, it was Starscream who had done so. Alexis had taken a piece from the gem encrusted rock and had her dad help with turning it into a necklace. But the moment that Starscream was deactivated, the gem had broken, leaving a crack running from the chain-loop to the opposite end.
But right now, she was outside, enjoying the winter weather that descended upon the town. From her vantage point on the mountainside she could see across the town towards the mountains in the distance. She was out of high school, graduation was this past spring and she already came back from her vacation trip with the boys to Rocky Pointe, Mexico. They promised to keep in touch, though how much of that was going to be kept was yet to be seen. In many ways she expected that Rad was going to follow in his dad's footsteps and go into science and technology. She would see him again, that she was sure of, but she didn't know where Carlos was going with his career goals. The hispanic friend of theirs had been showing a propensity of leaning towards either music or science, but he still had the support from his friends if he needed it. Alexis didn't know what Billy was planning on doing for his career, but no one doubted Fred when he said he was going to be a chef and own his own restaurant one day.
A sigh escaped her lips as memories replayed in her mind while she closed her eyes. She could see Hot Shot, Sideswipe, Scavenger, Blurr, Red Alert, Jetfire, Hoist and Optimus Prima all so clearly, as if it were only yesterday that she had met each of them. Hot Shot and Jetfire told the children that they would return someday, but when was yet to be seen. She wished it was now, tonight, so she could feel less lonely and uncertain about her future. She already received a scholarship for a political sciences degree at the local university and started taking classes that September, but she was unsure of if she could truly achieve the goal she wanted. Becoming president was a dream she had while helping the Autobots with finding the Minicons they were looking for, but what she wanted even more was to work with the Autobots and keep peace between them and the humans.
"I wish you were here, Starscream." She said quietly into the night sky that fell over her now before she headed into the Autobot base. She had made a small area where the Minicons had once occupied into a little home for herself and wanted to keep close to where they once lived. It was all she had left of her giant friends. But no sooner had those words left her lips than a bright light, pure and white, descended from a far off point she thought was a star and hovered in front of her. She looked at it as she realized something was inside it. It was a reflection of Starscream, before he had been injured in the battle against Nemesis Prime. His amber optics stared into her hazel eyes as if he were right there, but how could he be there? Just as suddenly as the light came, it entered her body and enveloped her in it. "Ohhh..."
Closing her eyes, she saw Starscream standing before her, but was somehow her height if a bit taller. His white, red and black frame was whole and unscathed, as if he hadn't been into battle yet. She had to blink a few times to realize he was there but none of it made any sense to her. He was dead, wasn't he? So why was he able to be here with her now? He stepped towards her a bit, raising his left hand to rest on her right cheek gently. Her voice caught in her throat and the air in her lungs stilled when she realized she could feel his hand, the hard, black metal of his hand was infinitely gentle as his optics softened while he watched her reaction turn from surprise to understanding to something he didn't expect to see. Tears misted her vision as she reached up with her hand to his, leaning her head into the touch she never expected to experience.
"I have waited for a long time to be with you like this again, Alexis." Starscream said softly to her, carefully modulating his voice as he had done before he left her on Cybertron. His thumb gently brushed away the tears that trickled down her cheek, not caring if it were to get wet or rust while she held his hand like her life depended on it. "But I need a new body if I'm to return to the living completely. I need your help."
"How can I help?" She asked in a tone barely above a whisper, her eyes never leaving his optics even as she came closer to him, the fabric of her shirt almost touching his chest when a lost expression covered her face. She realized then that what the light was, was his Spark. He travelled many many lightyears to be with her for a reason, but there had to be more to it than returning to the living. "I know Red Alert would be able to build you a new body but I'd need the sattelite atop the mountain to try to reach Cybertron."
"That won't be necessary. The Autobots are coming back to Earth. The Axalon is on its way here with Jetfire, Red Alert, Hot Shot, Scavenger, Sideswipe and the Minicons." Starscream explained to her as he gently embraced her. Her eyes widened as he did this but she didn't back away. Instead she returned it as she rested her head on his shouler. "I spent all this time, for the past five years, watching over you and realized how much I missed being with you."
"I'm so glad. I missed you so terribly much, Starscream." She said softly, feeling the warmth emanating from him seep into her like she were holding a space-heater. She didn't want to let go of him. She already lost him once when he sacrificed himself against Unicron. She didn't want to repeat the tragedy. "It took losing you for me to realize how much I really cared about you."
This caught him by surprise as an unexpected smile spread on his face before he rested both hands on her body, making her heart beat erratically while he gently lifted her face to his with a finger. Her eyes searched his optics, feeling like there was something more to the experience that he wasn't tellig her but would soon find out. Tentatively, Starscream kissed her, brushing his lips against hers in a soft and gentle caress. It was an intimate moment as they kissed over and over before remembering the importanct of the situation. Neither would forget, though, that their close friendship had bloomed into something more and deeper than they first realized.
"What... what is this that I feel, Alexis?" Starscream asked her in a hushed voice as he seemed breathless while looking into her eyes. "I feel like I want to take you away from Earth, travel the universe maybe, and be with you for all time, just like this. I can't think straight and when I see you, even now, my... my Spark pulses erratically. What is this called?"
"It's called love, Starscream." She said in an equally hushed voice as her forehead touched his, her heart beating faster and perspiration covering the back of her neck, her forehead and her palms. "And I feel like I really wouldn't mind going anywhere or doing anything, as long as I was with you. I love you too."
